Leah was born in Eckville, Alberta, on Treaty 6 Territory - the ancestral homeland of the Cree, Dene, Blackfoot, Saulteaux, Nakota Sioux, and Métis people. Leah is a proud Métis woman and member of the Métis Nations of Alberta. She is dedicated to fostering relationships with those who walk alongside Indigenous people on the journey toward truth and reconciliation.
In 2010, Leah graduated from Red Deer College with her Diploma in Social Work. After practicing for seven years, she graduated from the University of Calgary in 2017 with her Bachelor of Social Work. In 2021, Leah began her Master of Social Work at Dalhousie University. Nearing the end of this chapter in her education, Leah is now completing her internship at Boreal Therapy Collective.
Leah spent the first ten years of her career supporting survivors of intimate partner violence, abusive relationships, and trauma. Over the past seven years, Leah has practiced medical social work, with a focus on emergency, maternity, and oncology care. With her diverse array of experiences, Leah has provided countless people with support in navigating the court system, child protection system, RCMP, and other governmental and non-profit organizations. In 2015, Leah received the prestigious Front-Line Service Provider Award in Red Deer, Alberta.
Leah’s practice incorporates solution-focused therapy and narrative therapy, with a focus on strengths-based and holistic healing approaches. Leah is particularly passionate about supporting those experiencing trauma, family violence, and grief and loss.
Leah is honoured to walk you on your journey to recovery, healing, and growth. Throughout her internship, Leah will be offering low cost in-person and virtual therapy to teens and adults throughout Fort McMurray and the greater Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo.
